Arthur Dewitt Skeen, Jr., age 83, a devoted father and veteran, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
Born on April 7, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee, Arthur was the son of the late Arthur Dewitt Skeen, Sr., and Lucille Elizabeth Marable Skeen. From an early age, Arthur displayed a sense of duty and courage that led him to enlist in the U.S. Army in 1961. As a skilled pistol expert and sharpshooter, he bravely served his country during the Vietnam War. After returning from combat, Arthur dedicated himself to the Army National Guard, earning numerous accolades throughout his service, including the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (ARCAM), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (AFRM), ASR, TNGVR, TNG SR, and TNARNG. Arthur retired from military service in 1989 after a distinguished career marked by expertise in machinery and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Following his time in the Armed Forces, Arthur transitioned to a fulfilling career with the Metropolitan Nashville Public School Transportation Center, where he applied his mechanical expertise to repairing school buses. His meticulous work ensured the safety of countless students and reflected his unwavering dedication to service.
Arthur was a passionate history enthusiast who loved sharing stories and fun historical facts with anyone willing to listen. His knowledge and love for history enriched the lives of those around him, leaving an indelible mark on friends and family alike.
Arthur’s memory will be cherished by his sons, Michael A. Skeen and Richard A. Skeen; his daughters, Patricia A. Winters and Amanda Michele Crawford; his nine grandchildren; and his five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Arthur is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda Faye Skeen; his brothers, Joseph W. Skeen and David W. Skeen; and his son, Arthur Dewitt Skeen, III.
The family will receive friends and visitors on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Arthur will be laid to rest in a graveside service at Olive Branch Cemetery in Cottage Grove, Tennessee, at 3:00 PM.
Arthur Dewitt Skeen, Jr.’s life was one of dedication, courage, and love. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
