Barbara Frances Yazvac Allen, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 1, 1927, in Sharon, PA, daughter of the late Barbara Bene and Stephen Yazvac. She was the youngest of five siblings John, Mary, Steve, and Ann. Ann is the last surviving sibling. Barbara grew up in Masury, OH. She worked as a telephone operator at Westinghouse where she met her husband, the late William Henry Allen. The couple enjoyed 64 years of marriage living in Albuquerque, NM, Baltimore, MD, and Rehoboth Beach, DE. Barbara moved to Thompson's Station, TN last year to be closer to family after her husband's death.
Barbara retired from Montgomery Ward in Baltimore. She also enjoyed cooking for her family, playing Bingo and Bunco, playing bridge, and going to the casino. She loved all animals. Barbara was an avid New England Patriots fan. She and her late husband enjoyed traveling including 16 cruises. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Barbara was a volunteer at Beebe Hospital gift shop for 28 years. She was also a member of two Delaware senior centers: Lewes Senior Center and Cape Henlopen Senior Center. Most recently she was a member of the Spring Hill Senior Center in TN. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Edmonds Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach where she was a former
member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. Barbara also was a member of the Croation Fraternal Union (CFU) for over 50 years.
Barbara is survived by her six children, William Hand (Deana) Allen, Sandra Marie (Mark) Heck, John Bene (Junko) Allen, Mark Stephen (Michelle) Allen, Ronald Jeffrey (Peggy) Allen, and Barbara Irene Torino; sister, Ann Rescek; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Brentwood, TN, Father Justin, Celebrant. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service.
