Charles “Charlie” Edward Metzler Jr. age 88 passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at home in Spring Hill, Tennessee with his family. Born on December 26, 1936, in Brookville, Indiana, Charlie was the cherished son of the late Charles Metzler Sr. and Mary Selm Metzler, one of five children.
From an early age, he embodied the values of hard work, dedication, and integrity. At 17, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force and became a radar system specialist.
Following his military service, Charlie pursued a higher education at Ohio State University and subsequently took positions in the construction industry with Dodge Construction, Ragner Bensen, and JL Williams. In the mid-70s, he co-started a design-build construction firm QMZ. In 1980, he started his own firm FQC in Addison, IL which remains a successful commercial construction company specializing in municipal projects throughout northern Illinois.
On a chance blind date, Charlie met the love of his life, Ruth Kuh, a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines, and they were married on July 21, 1963. Charlie and Ruth found joy in their faith and family life. Together, they enjoyed family time and friendships as members of Medinah and Wild Cat Run country clubs and while snowmobiling in the winter months throughout the Midwest. Charlie was also an avid fisherman and book reader.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, his daughters Kathy and Cheryl; his son, Scott; his grandchildren, Aaron, David, Michael, Matthew, Amanda, Alexander, Julie, and Angie; his great-grandchildren, Jack, Charley, Maverick, and Riley.
Charlie is fondly remembered by his brother Richard, a host of extended family members and dear friends. He now joins in eternal rest with all those family and friends who have passed before him including his siblings Marlene, Nelson, and Robert.
Charlie lived a wonderful life filled with love, laughter, and blessings. His spirit will continue to guide all those who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace.
“Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord.” – Psalm 89:15
