Spring Hill

Larry Wesley Dennis, age 79 of Spring Hill, TN passed away February 10, 2022. Born in Muncie, IN, he was the son of the late Roswell Orville and Blanch Louise Kershner Dennis. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Spring Hill, TN. Larry had worked as a bus driver and custodian, serving at the church. Like his (late) wife, O’Etta, Larry loved his family and enjoyed gatherings and reunions with them.

Larry loved learning. He read how to books, watched programs on history and how things were made, and always wanted the back story to why various events happened. He enjoyed quiz shows and trivia games. He was meticulous in his paperwork regarding bills, insurance, and family history. This made him an excellent clerk for his church, a position he served in for many years both in Indiana and in Tennessee.  He also served in the family history center helping visitors trace their genealogy. Additionally, he served in the Nashville Temple and later as a service missionary for his church.

Larry had several interests. He loved music, especially big band music. He played the clarinet and saxophone in school marching and concert bands. He sang in several church choirs over the years. And he was well known for his amazing ability to whistle beautifully. In his free time, Larry enjoyed bowling in his youth and later golf in his retirement. He loved watching sports on TV and always rooted for the underdog. He loved going to concerts, plays, and dance shows for his children and grandchildren as well as going out with friends and family to see professional theatrical shows.

Larry was devoted to his family and friends. His friends group from high school got together almost every New Year’s Eve for over 30 years. They also attended almost every high school reunion together. Additionally, he seldom missed a family reunion for his or his wife’s side of the family. He loved having his children and grandchildren together. In the last few years, he was the main care-taker for his wife. He will be remembered for his service, friendship, and love.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years: O’Etta Ann Dennis in July 2021 and is survived by children: Lowell (Mary) Dennis, Loren (LaDean) Dennis and Lori Joffs; grandchildren: Michael Dennis, Maryssa Dennis, Morgan Dennis, Max Dennis, RaeLynn Dennis, Brendan Joffs and Riley Joffs; and brother, Darrel (Judy) Dennis. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 25 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2998 Commonwealth Drive, Spring Hill, TN with Bishop James Bickmore presiding. The family will visit from 10:00 AM until the service hour with friends. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be family members and Tim McCartney.
