Marlyn Marie Zalud entered eternal life on January 17, 2021, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, John Albert Zalud, Jr., and two infant grandchildren. Marlyn is survived by their four children, eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Born in New York, Marlyn lived a full and beautiful life of 90 years. She attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School in the Bronx, New York, and graduated with honors from the College of New Rochelle. She met John, the love of her life, at a tea dance, and the two were married in 1953 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in the city. John and Marlyn later moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where Marlyn taught fifth grade with the Nashville Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia. Their journey brought the Zalud family to South Bend, Indiana, home of their cherished University of Notre Dame and the Fighting Irish. In South Bend, Marlyn enjoyed teaching at Christ the King School and thereafter served as Principal of St. Joseph's Grade School. She completed her Master's Degree at Indiana University, South Bend. After their four children graduated from Notre Dame, Marlyn and John moved to sunny southern California, where they enjoyed many years of happiness in Redlands, California. Marlyn loved her husband, her family, and her faith. She taught her daughters and granddaughters how to be loving, selfless mothers. Marlyn shared her special love of the Blessed Mother and passed on the gentle love of Mary to her children and all those around her. She was greatly loved as a Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother and her family awaits a joyful reunion in our heavenly abode! Eternal rest grant unto Marlyn, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her! May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Mother Mary, watch over your children and bring us all home to you! A funeral mass will be held at the Catholic Church of the Nativity on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 1:00pm.
