Mason Clark Carvalho, Seaman US Navy, 22, passed away May 8, 2022 in Baltimore, MD.

As a child Mason loved Legos, video games, and reading books. Through his reading he taught himself many different subjects that were not a part of the school curriculum. He read it, knew it, and was truly brilliant!

He could share many historical facts that intrigued him, like his knowledge of Hitler and Stalin. In elementary school his two besties were M.J. Rogers and James Mancussi. They were like the 3 Musketeers. They rode bikes, scooters and loved video games. As an adult he continued his love for video gaming, playing with people all over the word, he was quite good at it.

His uncle, Larry Young, was a big influence in Mason's life. At age 10 they began traveling to several National Parks, with the goal to visit them all.

In the United States Navy, mason was stationed with a command responsible for teaching future information warriors the skills required to defend America around the world. He worked as a cryptologic technician, responsible for analyzing electronic communications, jamming enemy radar signals, deciphering information in foreign languages and maintaining equipment and networks used to generate top secret intel.

Mason was first stationed at IWTC Corry Station, just one component that makes up the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) domain, headquartered at Naval Air Station Pensacola Corry Station, Florida, where he was charged with developing the future technical cadre of the information warfare community.

As a member of one of the U.S. Navy’s most relied-upon assets, Carvalho knew his team was part of a legacy that will last beyond their lifetimes, serving as a key part of the information warfare community in its mission to gain a deep understanding of the inner workings of adversaries and developing unmatched knowledge of the battlespace during wartime.

Mason moved from Ft. Gordon, Augusta, GA to Fort Meade, Baltimore, MD on December 1, 2021. His command was Fort Meade. In April, 2022 he began ION training. Navy interactive ON-NET (ION) computer network exploitation (CNE) operators develop, refine, and utilize world class tactics, techniques, and procedures to conduct computer network operations in support of national and tactical security objectives. Bridging the tactical-technical span, ION operators use advanced software applications to change or collect information residing on or transiting computer networks. The purpose of the Navy ION CNE Operator Certification Program is to select and develop Navy cryptologic technicians network (CTNs) who will achieve basic certification with an end goal of being exploiter qualified at the end of their first 3- year tour as an operator.

Mason was a kind, gentle, old soul with a great sense of humor. His impersonations were priceless. Born in Walnut Creek, CA, the family moved to Tennessee in December 2015, where he graduated from Summit High School, class of 2017. It was here he met Dylan Sanchez and developed a lasting and valued friendship, "Best friends to the end"

Mason is survived by his mother: Lana Young of Spring Hill; grandmother: Norma Wyatt of Sparks, NV; uncles: Larry Young of San Jose, CA and David Young of Sparks, NV; and cousin: Zachary Young of Sparks, NV.

Mason was reunited with his mother at a receiving ceremony at Nashville International Airport on Monday, May 23. On Tuesday, May 24, his family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM for a time of public visitation. A Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 PM, concluding with full military honors provided by the United States Navy.

Private interment will be in Spring Hill Memorial Park.
